Non Fiction: Should Women Compete Against Men in Sports?

I just read an article about how women in the Olympics try to play sports against men but they can’t. Lindsey Vann who is a really great at skiing couldn’t even play against men. I found this article on TimesKids and it really interests me. I think that women should be able to play against any one they want. These Olympic players are better then anyone and they don’t get enough respect.

In the article it talks about how even a few female athletes like Lindsey Vann, Annika Sorenstam and a lot of others desire to play against men. And how they sometimes can but not in big sports like the Olympics where they really can make a difference. These women can really beat these men and its time people start realizing this.’

Since forever, everyone has thought that guys were so much better then girls at sports. But that is not the truth with some cases. There are amazing women athletes out there who are never ever recognized and need to be.

In the article it says “Other people say that women should focus on women sports”. I think that is really unfair. What is the difference between women and men sports for most sports. Basketball, baseball, soccer, swimming, gymnastics, etc. have both men and women teams and its completely unfair that they get separated into better and worse.

This article relates to my life. In gym class during games, all of the guys take charge. And the girls let them. All the gym teachers talk about how the girls shouldn’t stand in a corner. Some games they separate boys and girls but most its mixed and I think that’s good and that girls should take charge!

I'm Not Her part 2

I am still reading "I'm Not Her". Kristina and Tess are siblings. They are pretty close and life has always gone on as normal until an unexpected awful thing happened. Kristina got cancer. This affected the whole family. They all started blaming each other and that is not good or healthy for the family. Also the cancer affected Tess' friend life. Tess doesn't have many friends but she does have one named Melissa.

Kristina is a really likable person. She's smart and pretty and has a nice laugh. Everyone likes her and her parents are obsessed over her. When something so awful and upset happened they would never blame Kristina and they have no choice to blame each other. The mom turned to the dad and blamed him and his family history of disease and the dad blamed the mom for not turning In Kristina to the doctors earlier. The whole idea of Kristina having cancer in the first place tears their family apart.

A similar situation occurred with her best friend Melissa. They really only have each other. They are best friends and best friends tell each other everything. But when your sister asks you to keep such a big secret..you do. Of course Tess didn't tell Melissa but it was hard because Tess was upset and she couldn't tell Melissa why. That got Melissa mad and they got in a fight which just made everything worse

When you find out bad news sometimes you don't know how to react. You want to blame others when it really wasn't their fault at all. It was no ones fault and when something so tragic happens you build so much anger up inside you you need to take it out on someone. And people chose their families because they are the ones they love the most.

I'm Not Her

I am reading a book called “I’m Not Her” by Janet Gurtler. I think it is really interesting reading. In the book, Tess and Kristina are complete opposites. Tess isn’t as pretty or sporty as her sister and she’s younger. I think that Tess had always felt a little neglected and felt like she needed to defend herself. She thought her parents favored Kristina.

Then a horrible tragedy strikes the family and Kristina gets cancer. Tess starts to get a lot of the family’s attention and it is a big change for her. I think Tess really doesn’t want to have all of the family’s attention because she is not used to it. Her parents have never paid so much attention to her. She doesn’t know what to do. She is used to being the one in the corner watching while her parents praise Kristina and say how proud they are of her metal for sports and new boyfriend and friends and everything.

I think Tess is actually very hurt on the inside. Her parents don’t know it, she has never spoken up for herself and her parents aren’t aware that she feels like she is the forgotten child. If I was Tess, I would be scared to stand up for myself. I mean all these years of just being un noticed you must be scared. I would be really mad at my parents and I would want to tell them to pay more attention to me. Tess is a really good kid but they don’t know that.

But when Kristina gets cancer all the attention gets turned to Tess. Tess isn’t used to this at all and doesn’t know what to do. In school people ask her how her sister is and what’s wrong. Tess doesn’t want to talk to them because when she has in the past, all they did was make fun of her.

“As I walked down the hall people stare at me. They whisper and I know what they are whispering about.” That line made me think that Tess is scared of others noticing her. She has never experienced it before and doesn’t want to start now.

The Pact

i am reading the book "The Pact" by Jodi Picoult. I am only on page 30 but so far its really good and dramatic. I am reading the book "The Pact" by Jodi Picoult. I am only on page 30 but so far it's really good and dramatic. There are two families that have lived next to each other for a long time. They are bet friends and their children are dating. Emily and Chris are very much in love.

I can relate to this. One of my best fiends, eve and I have the same situation. Her parents and my parents are best friends and we go on stuff like family trips together. We go to fire island every year.

Having this in common with the book is really helpful to me. I feel like i can really relate to the book and it is more fun for me because i go on similar adventures and trips that the two family's go on together.

In the book, the families feel closer and safer near each other, they are so close, like two peas in a pod. Its really sweet how much they can rely on each other. I hope as i keep reading this book, that that will continue and the families will be able to rely on each other through rough times.

Looks by Madeline George

In the book “Looks” by Madeline Geroge, there is a very big plot line. It is about two girl who are outcasts. One is names Aimee and the other is named Meghan. They both have weight problems and the story is told in two different perspectives. The perspectives are the two girls and the way the author writes the book, it seems like the two girls are completely opposite when that isn’t entirely true. Meghan is very overweight and Aimee is way too skinny. They look very different but they aren’t that different in personality.  In life, they both have no friends and they are both outcasts.

Both girls try to lower themselves. Aimee trys to make herself weigh less and Meghan tries that too. Also, neither of them have very high expectations of themselves. They both think of themselves as losers and people that will never make it. In fact, that is not true at all and they really shouldn’t think that low of themselves because its sad to hear. They are not like that. Also, Aimee mentions throughout the entire story that she needs an escape from not eating, and although I'm not exactly sure how because I've never been in that position, I can understand how having an escape might be necessary. They both need escapes from the ton of kids at school, and I see how that may end up causing stress on a person. Sometimes, I get nervous before tests or drama performances or interviews or even essays. A thing you can do is to take a break from stressing over what you are nervous of and instead have a relative escape.

Although the two girls are very much the same, they are also different. Meghan actually wanted to have friends at first. She tried to talk to people and when they ignored her she was sad and upset. But for Aimee it was different. She was not interested in other people. She was going to just mind her business and not worry about other people. And in that way they are different.

This book was really good. It tought me a lot. I think that there is more then just what someone looks like. Someone could look really strong on the outside but be really weak and fragile on the inside.
